Race Programme
The standard race programme will be as follows:
- • A 60 minute Premier Race (Regional C+) event for E/1/2/3/4/ category riders who hold a full BC racing licence. This will be a band 5 race carrying BC points for the top ten finishers.
- • A 30 minute Go Race for 4th category and novice racers. This race is open to riders born 1996 or earlier and who have not accrued any points on their racing licence.
- Go Ride Racing for youth riders (ages 8 – 16)
The introduction of Go Ride Racing is new for 2012 and will replace the coaching sessions that were held in previous years. The idea of GRR is to provide a pathway from school and club coaching into regional and national level racing – but it’s still about having fun and developing all round riding skills. You can find out more here.
Field Sizes
The layout of the track allows us to run events concurrently – using two circuits each approximately 1 mile long. The maximum field sizes permitted will be:
- Regional C+ – 120
- Go Race – 50 (See note below)
- Go Ride Racing – 40
Note. If we have over 50 riders signing on for the Go Race, 2 races will be held with half the numbers in each race. The 1st race would start at 7pm with the 2nd starting at 7:30.
It is quite a challenge to run three races in 2 hours, but by splitting the circuit into 3 sectors we can ensure that everyone gets an appropriate length race on the best circuit layout possible. Riders must be aware that other categories may still be racing whilst they are warming up or warming down and should be respectful of every riders entitlement to race, irrespective of their age and ability.
Entry Fees
Race entry fees are being held at 2011 levels as follows:
Regional C+ £10 (Juniors £5)
Go Race £10 (Juniors £5)
Go Ride Racing youths £3
British Cycling membership and racing licence options
British Cycling offers three levels of membership, Gold, Silver and Bronze – full details here http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/membership – but the basics of what you need to know if you wish to race at Lotus is as follows:
All levels of BC membership include a provisional racing licence – this covers you to compete in Go Race events.
Full racing licences can only be purchased by Gold or Silver members.
Regional C+: Full racing licence required
Go Race: Provisional licence or ‘day licence’ required.
Day licences cost – £5.00 for 18+, £2.50 for juniors; £1.50 youths.
Go Ride Racing: No licence required
Top Tip 1 – if you are 18+ and planning to ride the Go Race event, taking out BC bronze membership will pay for itself after just three races!
Top Tip 2 – Iceni Velo are offering free club membership to youth riders for one year. Providing they have not previously been members of BC this will enable them to get free BC Membership + free BC Racing licence for one year. Contact the club here http://www.icenivelo.co.uk
If you have any queries regarding BC membership or licence options please contact the membership team on 0161 274 2010 or membership@britishcycling.org.uk
Or contact the Regional Events Officer – saraflatt@britishcycling.org.uk
How to Enter
To comply with Group Lotus PLC’s Security requirements a list of all riders, spectators and officials has to be sent 24 hours prior each week.
You must complete the Registration Page at least 5 days before your intended first visit to Lotus. On arrival at Lotus you will be checked in against the list of registered riders/supporters. If your name is not on the list you will not be allowed in – no exceptions!
To race simply pay your money and ‘sign on’ each week.
We look forward to seeing you and wish you a successful and enjoyable summer of racing.
